W. Käfer
MD, PhD, Associate Professor

Doctor Käfer is a fellow of the Board of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgeons, General Surgeons as well as Specialist Orthopedic Surgeons. From 2010 to 2020, he was Head of Department of Spine Surgery at the Westpfalz-Klinikum in Kusel, Germany. From 2001 to 2010 he worked at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Ulm Medical School, from 2005 as a senior physician and responsible for the patients with back pain and spinal disorders. Apart from gaining vast expertise in the hands-on-treatment of back pain patients, he engaged in a large number of scientific projects on the spine, leading to clinical and experimental studies including the innovative technique of lumbar spine disc replacement. He was appointed university teacher (“Privatdozent”) in 2009 and teaches students of the University Hospital Mannheim/Heidelberg. He is member of the German Society of Orthopedic Surgeons and Trauma Surgeons, and of the Society of Spine Surgeons, holding the society’s Master Certificate. In addition, he is a reviewer of the European Spine Journal as well as the Bone and Joint Journal. As a student, he spent parts of his final year in Tampa, Florida, USA and is fluent in English.
