W. Käfer
MD, PhD, Associate Professor

Spine Surgeon

Doctor Käfer is a fellow of the Board of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgeons, General Surgeons as well as Specialist Orthopedic Surgeons. From 2010 to 2020, he was Head of Department of Spine Surgery at the Westpfalz-Klinikum in Kusel, Germany. From 2001 to 2010 he worked at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Ulm Medical School, from 2005 as a senior physician and responsible for the patients with back pain and spinal disorders. Apart from gaining vast expertise in the hands-on-treatment of back pain patients, he engaged in a large number of scientific projects on the spine, leading to clinical and experimental studies including the innovative technique of lumbar spine disc replacement. He was appointed university teacher (“Privatdozent”) in 2009 and teaches students of the University Hospital Mannheim/Heidelberg. He is member of the German Society of Orthopedic Surgeons and Trauma Surgeons, and of the Society of Spine Surgeons, holding the society’s Master Certificate. In addition, he is a reviewer of the European Spine Journal as well as the Bone and Joint Journal. As a student, he spent parts of his final year in Tampa, Florida, USA and is fluent in English.

M. Gonzalez
MD

Spine Surgeon

Doctor Gonzalez is a fellow of the Board of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgeons. Following his initial interest in trauma surgery working at the Department of Trauma Surgery in Kaiserslautern, he specialized in spine surgery and in the treatment of acute and chronic back disorders. He spent several years working as an attending at the Department of Spine Surgery in Kusel. In addition, he is a member of the German Society of Orthopedic Surgeons and Trauma Surgeons, and of the Society of Spine Surgeons. He is fluent in English and Spanish.

C. Clessienne
MD, PhD

Physician, specializing in Psychotherapy

Doctor Clessienne spent several years at neurological hospital departments in Zell/Mosel and Trier as well as at psychiatric-psychotherapeutic and psychosomatic departments in Kaiserslautern – until today. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Ulm (2002-2004) with a special interest in preventive medicine. Today, she focuses on stress and life circumstances altering the perception of pain, reduction of stress, improvement of dealing with pain and stress as well as the prevention of physical and mental disease. Having spent two years at the University of Bristol Medical School and at its teaching hospital in Truro, Cornwall, UK, she is fluent in (British) English and holds a Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English. She also passed the United States Medical Licensing Exam Part I and Part II.
